Coming from an internship in a profession I later decided against & the painful "just work to get the paycheck" life that has been the past & continuing 4 years of my life- well, it seems that I haven't done much. Unfortunately staring longingly into magazines or online wishing & hoping is not an answer either, I suppose. Starting this blog is a start, I can say that, but even that isn't exactly enough. Am I sitting here with an internship, a goal, or just dreams? Am I hoping something will hit me on the head or pick me randomly one day out of the millions of people fighting for it? Well, yes.
I've never exactly thought of how I was going to get to the place I wanted to be, or even an exact destination.. until this class. When he asked us, plain out, what our dream job was I almost froze in fear. I'd never really thought about it. As he got closer and closer to my side of the room it just hit me. 2 words: Kate Spade. That was it! I would love to work for that company. For me, it's always been about fashion, about the creative, about the clever, about the omgosh, I want to do that! Wow, who came up with that? Jeeze, they read my mind or FINALLY! I was already a year in advance on that one! I've written tons and tons of essays about my dream job-- the perfect life, stepping out of that cab in the city & heading to a job that I love, about the whirlwind of each day being so fantastic that I'd come home to pistachio ice cream and the love of my life and just gush about it all until I fell asleep. When I though about it for that 10 milliseconds it hit me: I have the passion, I have the multitasking skills, I have the drive, & goshdarnit, I WANT IT SO BAD. Isn't that enough, Mr. Law & Ethics?
After we all blurted out these fantasized realities- the manager of the Knicks, the publicist for Lady GaGa, the editor of Vogue, I expected a snicker, a scoff, a "good luck" even. Me be in the fashion industry? Writing for a fashion magazine? That has always been a dream, but dreams are farfetched, impossibilities we daydream about when we're at our miserable careers, right?
The words that left this man's mouth--the man who worked for Fox and had countless amazing careers, looked us in the face & said, "You can do it. You can get that job. It is in reach, if you work hard..." After 2 decades of hearing this, it finally hit me like a ton of bricks.
"But," he continued, "what have you done today to get yourself there?"
Well, nothing today but tomorrow... why is it always tomorrow?
If there's one thing I've learned from this summer's epiphany is that it's never too late. It can't be. It's never too late to figure out your life, to look at your map and realize you've been heading in the wrong direction & turn around & get it right- but that journey needs to start over right now. Not tomorrow, not an hour from now, just now. And if not now when? What are you waiting for, the water to hit you on the head? Jump in the damn pool and kick your way to the top! Turn the map over & start again. Let go & live; wake up & fight for it. Be brave, believe in yourself, & for a second, believe that you can actually get what you want & be where you want to be. You can write for that magazine, you can manage that team, you can step out of that NYC cab in your Jimmy Choo's like you're Carrie Bradshaw, go into a job you love to do everyday, attend that fashion show, have your pistachio ice cream & make out with your boyfriend too! All it takes is a little

I've compiled my four fashion necessities for fall (beauty must-haves being non-negotiable, of course!)
The cropped trouser, or what I like to call Audrey Hepburn pants, are a staple this fall/winter & I've been singing Hallelujahs since they walked across the runway. Some retailers, such as J. Crew love us enough to make some of our cropped favorites in wool for the colder seasons. I cannot WAIT to get my hands on a pair for my petite frame, throw on some ballet flats, & pretend I'm Jo Stockton!
1. J. Crew's Café capri in wool
2. Menswear Cropped Tweed Pant from Delia*s
3. The Mad Men® Collection cigarette pant by Banana Republic
4. J. Crew's Minnie pant in Italian wool
Some beauty must, must-haves, & how can you go wrong with red lipstick, dark fantastical nails, & metallic lids? That's right, ladies, classic is in! So wing up that eyeliner, put on your rouge, & paint those nails black for a modern retro look.
1. Chanel Le Vernis in Black Velvet
2. Lime Crime Magic Eye Dust in Mirror, Mirror (I have followed fellow blogger Xenia & her amazing makeup tutorials around for years! & her Lime Crime makeup is fantastic!)
3. Chanel Le Vernis in Peridot
4. MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger
It's all about accessories this fall! I'm very into crazy colors and patterns & each of these mini messenger cross body bags take the cake. All are cute, roomy enough for the essentials, & dress up just about anything. They're everyday functional with a pop of "oh my gosh where did you get that amazing bag?"
1. Green Leather Vintage School Satchel by The Vintage Leather Satchel Co.
2. Essex Scout by kate spade new york
3. Crown Point Sasha bag by kate spade new york
4. Hinge Crossbody Bag
The camel coat has had my heart since I saw it on a fashionable. The key is to keep it over sized and simple preferably with a huge tuxedo collar- think minimalist male chic & you can't go wrong.
1. Joseph's Lisa wool and cashmere-blend coat
2. Plaza coat
3. Double-cloth metro coat
4. FLEURETTE 3/4-Length Overcoat
What are your fashion necessities this fall?
But, even years down the line, when I did have the money to purchase them I would always be a step behind. For example, they'd be on sale at Nordstrom-- but not in my size, Rue La La would be having a Marc by Marc Jacobs sale but no Mouse Flats would be in sight, or Gilt would have them but I'd be stuck talking to a teacher after class & would, literally, miss getting them by minutes, or I'd realize the Shop It To Me email would be in my spam when the sale was already over. Or, in today's case, I would not check my email until it was too late, missing them completely & kicking myself for it a little.
Are these flats fated to never fit my feet? Will they forever remain the ones that got away? Until next time, Mouse Flats!!

When I first spotted this look in the July/August issue of Harper's Bazaar I instantly fell in love. The impeccably nonchalant bombshell blonde hair, the red lipstick, & my god that skirt! Who was this badass girl?!
Joanna Hillman is no stranger to fashion-- she is the Senior Fashion Market Editor of Harper's Bazaar, previously served as the editor to Teen Vogue, & is a frequent feature on Garance Dore & the Sartorialist's site for as far back as I've saved her picture to my lookbook folder (without knowing it, of course). She mixes things up and always keeps her appearance interesting; one can even say that she dons a little mystery behind that red pout and dark sunglasses that complete most, if not all, of her amazing looks.
Hillman's style genius comes from the fact that all of her looks appear effortless, even when she's wearing crazy fur coats, mixing patterns, & donning leopard accessories. And anyone who pairs red lips & leopard print with an immaculate mix of classic and new age style is a gal after my own heart!

I found this picture on a website today & it hit me-- there I was, sitting in my room on my laptop, telling myself I'd make a fashion blog tomorrow or the day after or sometime next week, and putting it off another few years for no reason. Why had I waited so long? I could sit on my butt on Tumblr and Facebook all day but couldn't muster up the strength to start something I've wanted for years now? Well, fellow internet fashionistas here I am! My name is Corinne & I am the gal behind Cat Eyes & Thigh Highs. I'm currently a poor college student and have the worst luck falling in love with very, very expensive pieces of fashion, whether it be the Marc by Marc Jacobs Mouse Flats I can never seem to find on sale or the Chanel purse I vow to spend my first career paycheck on. I'm a Kate Spade-aholic, Hello Kitty obsessor, and all around art monger. Sometimes I live off of mac & cheese, other times I splurge on yummy macaroons from the French bakery a town over, and other times I'm scarfing down whatever's in the fridge while wearing red lipstick and surfing the internet for fashion inspiration at 3am. This blog will serve as my place to display the looks I love, the things I currently covet, as my own personal outfit journal, as well as daily diary of my everyday life (at least the interesting, fashionable related parts). So wing out your eyeliner, put on your red lipstick and rouge, grab a hold of your thigh highs & come along for the ride, won't you? I promise, it will be a fun ride (& even moreso if you are dressed fashionably!)
